Suzhou does not have the same straightforward major-airport arrival as a city with its own large international hub. Visitors commonly arrive through a Shanghai airport or Sunan Shuofang Airport near Wuxi. The right choice depends on your flight, luggage, rail connection and exact Suzhou hotel.
From Shanghai
First check whether you land at Pudong (PVG) or Hongqiao (SHA). Hongqiao Airport and Hongqiao railway station are connected within a large transport complex; Pudong requires a separate transfer across Shanghai before many rail departures. Do not use a generic “Shanghai to Suzhou” train time as the whole arrival estimate. Add immigration where applicable, baggage, movement to the correct station, waiting for the booked train and the final Suzhou transfer.
From Wuxi
Sunan Shuofang Airport (WUX) can be a useful option for some routes. Check the current road or rail connection to your Suzhou hotel before booking a flight on airport proximity alone. A prearranged car is worth comparing for a group with luggage; confirm pickup point, vehicle capacity and inclusions.
Read the Suzhou station name
Suzhou Station (苏州站), Suzhou North (苏州北站) and the newer Suzhou South serve different areas. For a garden-focused stay, a train stopping near the old center can save a long final transfer. The city's metro guide identifies Line 6's Humble Administrator's Garden–Suzhou Museum stop. If booking separate flight and train tickets, leave a buffer because a delayed flight may not protect your rail booking.
For your return, reverse the whole route from the hotel door to the flight terminal. Check the airport code, station, service times and current entry requirements before paying for a tight connection.
